Mindfulness is a therapeutic tool used to help calm the mind, lower heart rate and overall improve mental and physical health. At its core, mindfulness is a state of awareness.
Mindfulness can sometimes get a bad wrap and it can be hard for some people to get on board with a mindfulness practice. The results of mindfulness have been proven time and time again. Incorporating a mindfulness practice in your daily routine just might be easier than you think.
Mindfulness can result in a 58% reduction in anxiety levels, 57% reduction in depression symptoms, and 40% reduction in stress, according to the Mental Health Foundation.
Here are the 5 ways to easily use mindfulness in your daily self care:
Shower. During your shower as you wash your body, express gratitude for each body part.
Walk. At some point during the day as you are walking focus on how your feet feel on the ground as you are taking steps.
Breathe. Inhale for a count of 7 and exhale for a count of 11. Repeat 5 times.
Clean. When doing a daily chore, take time to be present, if you are folding clothes feel the fabric on your fingers, if you are washing dishes feel the calming stream of water, etc.
Sleep. When you are ready for bed, close your eyes and count to 1 to 10, as you count visualize each number in your mind, then count 10 to 1.
Best of luck in your journey
